Introduction

Sending emails from websites and applications hosted on Salsa Digital's platform involves several technologies and configurations. This guide aims to help you understand and choose the best email integration strategy for your specific needs.

Core Technologies: SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

We use SPF (Sender Policy Framework), DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), and DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) technologies to ensure that only authorised websites can send emails. Proper configuration of these technologies is critical; incorrect settings can lead to email rejections.

For most clients, we recommend using our preconfigured domain for email sending. This approach typically ensures reliable and uninterrupted email delivery.

Custom Integration: For Specialised Needs

If you prefer integrating with your own email system or using your custom domain name for email delivery, it will require careful planning, design, and testing. Our service desk team is ready to assist with:

- Selecting an appropriate email integration option.

- Configuring your website email to ensure proper sending.

- Testing and troubleshooting for authorised email delivery.

Email Integration Patterns

Our analysis identified four main email integration groups:

1. Vendor Email: Sending via a third-party vendor (SMTP).

   - Recommended for medium-to-large email volumes (e.g., member notifications, email campaigns).

   - Requires installation and configuration of a specific module/plugin.

   - Preferred approach by SalsaDigital for frequent email communications.

2. SalsaDigital Email: Sending via SalsaDigital's domain and email services.

   - The simplest option, requiring minimal configuration.

   - Ideal for most websites and applications on our platform.

   - Not suitable for frequent or medium-to-large volume email communications.

3. Custom Domain Email: Using a customer-specified domain.

   - Involves configuring SPF and DKIM records in your DNS zone.

   - Configuration of our SES service for your specified email address.

   - Less recommended compared to the Vendor Email option.

4. QuantCDN Email: For websites with QuantCDN "Static Website" integration.

   - Used for sending notifications about new form submissions.

   - Comes from a non-configurable no-reply email address.

Configuring Your Email Pattern

While customers can self-configure most patterns, SalsaDigital and QuantCDN emails require our direct involvement. We strongly advise submitting a support request for consultation on the best approach for your specific use case.

Conclusion

Whether you are setting up a new website or migrating from another host, choosing the right email sending pattern is crucial. Our team is here to guide you through the process, ensuring your emails are delivered efficiently and securely.
